Construction Dumpster Rental across Bristol County and the Attleboro area

A job site does not make one kind of waste. Demolition comes out heavy — concrete, tile, brick, shingles — then framing and drywall come out light and bulky, then the finish phase is packaging and offcuts. We size each phase on its own: a 10 or 15 for the heavy material, a 30 or 40 for the bulk, and recurring pickups and swap-outs so the crew never waits on a full box. Most contractors in Norton prefer a 20 yard for remodeling work and a 30 or 40 for larger construction and demolition — from a new home to a retail build-out or a warehouse project.

In Massachusetts the sorting matters. Asphalt pavement, brick, concrete, metal and wood have been banned from landfill disposal since 2006 and clean gypsum wallboard since 2011 (310 CMR 19.017), and MassDEP's minimum performance standard means mixed construction and demolition loads go to a handling facility that separates them for recycling. Clean drywall has to come out of a mixed load before it can be transferred. Non-asbestos asphalt shingles are not on the ban list. A clean, separated load and a box sized for the weight keep the job on budget. The Norton permit guide covers the street questions.

Demolition, framing, roofing and finish

Demolition debris is where the weight is. Concrete, brick and tile go in the smaller containers because of weight restrictions. Framing, lumber, drywall, insulation and packaging go in 20s and 30s. Roofing and siding jobs — shingles, underlayment, flashing and siding — go in a 10, 15 or 20 depending on the size of the roof. Landscaping and excavation with brush, dirt, sod and rock go in small boxes within the weight limit.

Asbestos is a state matter. MassDEP requires an asbestos survey by an asbestos inspector before demolition or renovation work (310 CMR 7.15), and asphalt roofing and siding, roofing felts and cement shingles are all on its list of suspect materials. Asbestos removal needs a notice filed ten working days before work starts, by the licensed abatement contractor; and demolishing or building anything other than a residential building with fewer than 20 units needs a construction and demolition notice ten working days ahead as well. Asbestos may not go to a construction and demolition processor, and asbestos-containing shingles may not be dropped or thrown to the ground. It never goes in a roll-off, and we will ask what the building is before we quote a demo job.

Job-site placement and the Town of Norton

On a private lot we place where the driver can reach it and the crew can load it, on a flat, stable surface. Norton's Board of Health sets its own demolition rules (Reg. Ch. 13): before a building comes down, the owner gives the Board a written statement from a licensed pest control contractor that it has been treated and rodent- and insect-free for 10 days; the demolition contractor tells the Board where the debris will be disposed of before work starts; all debris is removed within 15 days of completion; and a signed bill of lading from the disposal site goes to the Board within five days of removal. Historically significant buildings can have their demolition permit delayed for up to six months under the Town's demolition delay bylaw. Using part of a street for rubbish or building material during building work needs the Select Board's written permission (Bylaw §135-7), and the Board of Health bars dumping rubbish or debris in a public way, within 150 feet of one, or within 100 feet of an abutting property (Reg. Ch. 12). Every load leaves covered (M.G.L. c.85 §36).

Construction dumpster rental — the local specifics

The state rules sit on top of the towns'. MassDEP inspects loads at handling facilities, treats banned construction materials above 20 percent by volume of a load as its action level, and is raising the share that construction and demolition facilities must separate out from 20 percent to 23 percent on 1 January 2027. The towns add their own container rules. Sharon requires every new construction site to have a dumpster big enough for all its construction debris, and a construction and demolition dumpster permit for companies supplying only that kind of container (Board of Health Art. 3). Foxborough keeps construction dumpsters at least 10 feet from a habitable structure. North Attleborough's waste hauling rules limit open construction-debris containers to 30 days on site without a variance. Easton issues temporary dumpster permits for up to 30 days with one renewal. Norfolk exempts construction and demolition dumpsters with a valid building or demolition permit from its dumpster regulation, provided they leave the site when the project is complete. Plainville defines a temporary roll-off as one used for construction or cleanouts for no more than 60 days at a location, or under a valid building permit. Middleborough wants 14 days' notice to the Select Board before building materials or rubbish occupy part of a town street (§239-5). Every town page quotes the section.

Answers

Construction Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Do you do swap-outs?

Yes. Once the container is full we return for pickup or bring a replacement, and long-term projects usually set up recurring pickups and swap-outs at the start. Contractors with several active sites can line up ongoing service across them.

Can I mix concrete with other debris?

You can, but it costs you. Concrete fills the weight allowance long before the box looks full, so we usually run a 10 or 15 for rubble alongside a bigger box for the rest. Asphalt pavement, brick and concrete are on the Massachusetts disposal ban list, so a clean load of them is also easier to send for recycling than a mixed one.

Can you deliver to a site with no address yet?

Yes — give us the nearest cross streets and a site contact, and we coordinate placement with you, the homeowner or the site manager before the truck goes out.

Do I need a permit for a container on a Norton job site?

Not for the container on the lot, as far as we found in the Town's bylaws and Board of Health regulations. The street is different: using part of a public way for rubbish or building material needs the Select Board's written permission first (Bylaw §135-7). A demolition brings the Board of Health's own rules — the disposal site named before work starts, debris out within 15 days, a disposal receipt within five days (Reg. Ch. 13) — and MassDEP's asbestos survey and notices. We flag it when you book.

Which towns regulate construction dumpsters?

Most of them, one way or another. Sharon licenses every dumpster and has a separate construction and demolition dumpster permit; Foxborough sets a 10-foot gap from homes; North Attleborough limits open construction containers to 30 days without a variance; Easton issues 30-day temporary dumpster permits; Taunton's Dumpster Regulations cover all dumpsters. We found no exclusive roll-off franchise anywhere we serve. Each town page says what that town asks for.
