The 15 yard container in Norton
The 15 yard is the step up from the 10 when the job is one big room rather than one small one, and one of the most versatile sizes we run. Kitchen and bathroom remodels are the classic fit — cabinets, countertops, tile and the drywall behind them — and so is a carpet, laminate or hardwood change-out, a basement, garage or attic cleanout before a move, a fence or deck coming down, or a landscaping job. It holds about four to five pickup truck loads, or roughly 80 to 100 standard trash bags.
At about 16 feet long it gives serious cleanup capacity and still fits comfortably in most residential driveways around Norton, and the 4.5-foot sides keep loading easy. If you are between a 10 and a 20 and the debris is light and bulky, this is usually where you land.
Space needed
a flat, stable spot about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide (a driveway, paved area or compact gravel, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to get in and set it down safely, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires
Kitchens, floors, decks and yards
A kitchen makes more debris than people expect: by the time the cabinets, the countertops and the drywall are out, a 10 is tight and a 15 is right. Flooring jobs are the same — carpet, laminate, hardwood and tile — and tile gets heavy quickly, so watch the weight. Roofing projects fit too: tell us the roofing square footage and we will help estimate the weight before you book. Break deck and fence boards, posts and hardware down so they load flat.
Backyard jobs fit as well — branches, shrubs, seasonal cleanup and storm debris. Keep the green waste apart from household trash: leaves and yard waste are on the Massachusetts disposal ban list (310 CMR 19.017), so a clean green load has somewhere to go and a mixed one may not. If more than half the load is heavy debris such as concrete, dirt or shingles, we may recommend a smaller dumpster for safer weight management.
Weight on a 15 yard
About two to three tons — 4,000 to 6,000 pounds — is included, depending on the material. Tile, roofing shingles, concrete, dirt and plaster push the total up fast, so plan on weight as well as volume: we can estimate it from the roofing square footage, the flooring coming out, the landscaping materials or the renovation plan before delivery. Spread the load evenly, keep it level with the top edge or below, and cabinets, drywall and carpet will never get near the line.
Suitability
Is the 15 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 15 yard for
- Kitchen or bath remodel including cabinets and countertops
- Garage, attic, basement and multi-room cleanouts
- Flooring and carpet removal
- Roofing projects — shingles, flashing and underlayment
- Yard and storm debris, fence and deck removal
Pick a different size for
- Whole-house renovation — go to the 20 or 30
- Loads that are mostly concrete, dirt or shingles (weight — a 10 may be better)
- Yard waste mixed into household trash
- Paint, chemicals, fuel, oil, batteries, tires, asbestos or medical waste
Placing a 15 yard container on a Norton-area property
It needs a flat, stable spot about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide (a driveway, paved area or compact gravel, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to get in and set it down safely, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires. In Norton we found no Town permit rule, time limit or surface rule for a roll-off on your own driveway or lot, so the driveway comes first. The street is different: the Town bylaw requires written permission from the Select Board before part of a public way is used for rubbish or building material during building work, on condition that the spot is lit from sunset to sunrise, guarded with a railing, restored afterward and covered by an agreement to indemnify the Town (§135-7), and no obstruction may be left blocking travel on a street or sidewalk (§135-8). Route 123 (Old Colony Road) and Route 140 are state highway, where MassDOT has no permit type for a container, so there the box stays on the property. The Norton Board of Health also requires every dumpster in town to carry the company name, phone number and an ID number and allows no refuse on the ground around it (Reg. Ch. 11 §11.4). Other towns have their own rules — Taunton wants dumpster locations approved by its Board of Health, Easton asks the customer for a permit for each temporary dumpster, Sharon wants dumpsters on an impervious surface, and Plainville keeps roll-offs 5 feet back from the edge of a public way. Check your HOA too. Plywood under the wheels adds protection, and protective boards may be available on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

Answers
15 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How big is a 15 yard dumpster?
About 16 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and 4.5 feet high. It holds around four to five pickup truck loads, or roughly 80 to 100 standard trash bags.
Will it fit in my driveway?
Most residential driveways have room for its 16 feet, and in Norton the driveway is where it should go. Allow enough room for the truck to reach the spot, a flat, stable surface such as pavement or compact gravel, and clear space overhead. We found no Norton rule on how long a roll-off may sit on your own driveway. The street is the fallback, not the plan: the Town bylaw requires written permission from the Select Board before any part of a public way is used for rubbish or building material during building work, on condition that the spot is lit from sunset to sunrise, guarded with a railing, left as it was found and covered by an agreement to indemnify the Town (§135-7). The bylaw names no fee or time limit, and we found no online form for it. If you have an HOA, check its rules on containers before you book.
Can I keep it longer than the standard period?
Yes. Most rentals include a standard 7-day rental period, and we can often extend it for an additional daily or weekly fee, depending on availability — just call.
What is the weight limit?
Most 15 yard rentals include about two to three tons, depending on the debris type. Tile, shingles, concrete, dirt and plaster can push past that, so tell us what it is and we will help estimate it.
Can I mix different materials?
In most cases, yes, as long as nothing on the not-accepted list goes in. Heavy materials such as dirt or concrete may need special handling or different pricing, so if a lot of the load is heavy, tell us and we may recommend a smaller box for that part.
