Residential Dumpster Rental across Bristol County and the Attleboro area

Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. A narrow driveway on a tight lot wants a 10 or a 15 and a driver who takes it slowly; a bigger property may have room for a 20 — and an HOA with its own rules. For most home renovations and moving cleanouts in Norton, a 15 or 20 yard gives the best balance between capacity and driveway space. The first thing we ask on the phone is what your driveway looks like.

Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, a basement, or a whole house before a move or downsizing), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the home cleanout guide covers the planning, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container

Home cleanouts lead the way: furniture, storage boxes, household junk, the contents of a garage, attic or basement. Kitchen and bath remodels are next — cabinets, countertops, tile, drywall, insulation, flooring. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof, an old deck or fence, a landscaping redo, branches, shrubs, soil and sod, storm limbs.

Nobody else is coming for most of it. We found no Town trash collection in Norton — the Town's recycling sheet points residents to private trash services. The Highway Department runs recycling Saturdays on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month for listed items such as appliances, tires, TVs, mattresses and scrap metal, each with a fee, and offers a Monday curbside pickup of those large items for an extra charge (508-285-0239). That is the answer for a few items. A renovation or a whole-house cleanout is what a residential roll-off is for.

Driveway placement, street rules and HOAs

In Norton the driveway comes first. We found no Town rule on how long a roll-off may sit on your own driveway or what surface it has to sit on, but a driveway, a paved area or compact gravel works best, and you can put plywood under the wheels for extra protection on a newer surface. The street is another matter. Norton's bylaw requires anyone using part of a public way for rubbish or building material during building work to get written permission from the Select Board first, and to keep the spot lit from sunset to sunrise, keep a railing or guard around it, restore the way afterward and sign an agreement to indemnify the Town (§135-7). The bylaw states no fee or time limit, and we found no online form for it. Nothing may be left obstructing travel on a street or sidewalk, and the Town can order an obstruction moved (§135-8). Many local streets here have no sidewalk and little spare width, so there is rarely room anyway. Norton's Board of Health also requires every dumpster in town to carry the company's name, phone number and its own ID number, to be kept secured and nuisance-free, and allows no refuse on the ground around it (Reg. Ch. 11 §11.4) — so keep everything inside the box.

A few more things. Route 123 (Old Colony Road) and Route 140 in Norton are state highway; state law bars any obstruction on a state highway without MassDOT's written permit (M.G.L. c.81 §21), and MassDOT has no permit type for a container, so there the box stays on the property. HOA rules can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before a longer rental. And the neighbors differ. Taunton's 2019 Board of Health Dumpster Regulations say they apply to all dumpsters, and require dumpsters in residential areas to be enclosed by a 6-foot stockade or slatted chain-link fence, lids kept closed and the location approved by the Board, with no roll-off exemption on the face of the rule — we check the Taunton Board of Health rules before booking a container there. Easton asks the customer for a Board of Health permit for each temporary dumpster, good for 30 days with one renewal, at least 5 feet from a lot line and 15 feet from a building (Code Ch. 355). Seekonk issues a $25 temporary dumpster permit. Each town page says what that town asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the Massachusetts specifics

Massachusetts keeps a long list of things out of the trash, and the rule binds whoever transports a load as well as whoever fills it. MassDEP bans these from disposal (310 CMR 19.017): asphalt pavement, brick and concrete; metal; wood (from landfills); clean gypsum wallboard; mattresses and box springs and textiles such as clothing, bedding, towels and curtains (both since 1 November 2022); white goods, meaning large appliances; picture-tube TVs and monitors; lead-acid batteries; whole tires (from landfills); leaves and yard waste; recyclable paper and cardboard; and glass, metal and plastic bottles, cans and jars. The construction materials on that list are fine in a roll-off — mixed construction loads go to a handling facility that separates them — but mattresses, textiles and large appliances stay out of the box. MassDEP says one mattress is enough to fail a load. Where the leftovers go instead in Norton: the Highway Department's recycling Saturdays take mattresses and box springs, appliances (including ones with Freon), TVs and monitors, laptops and printers, tires, car batteries and scrap metal for per-item fees, and clothing, oil and antifreeze at no charge (508-285-0239); grass, leaves and brush go to the West Hodges Street yard-waste drop-off on set Saturdays. Norton runs no drop-off for paint, pesticides or gasoline. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.

Answers

Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

We take precautions during delivery and pickup to help protect your property. For additional protection, some customers place plywood boards under the dumpster wheels, and protective boards may be available on request — ask when you book, especially for a newer or decorative driveway.

Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?

In Norton, only with written permission from the Select Board first, during building work, with the spot lit at night, a railing or guard around it, the road restored afterward and an agreement to indemnify the Town (Bylaw §135-7). On a state highway such as Route 123 (Old Colony Road) or Route 140 we found no MassDOT permit path for a container at all. The driveway is always simpler.

Does my HOA have a say?

On the driveway, often yes. HOA rules can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.

Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?

Small appliances, usually yes. Large appliances — fridges, freezers, washers, stoves, air conditioners — are white goods, which Massachusetts bans from disposal, so they stay out of the dumpster. Our junk removal crew can take appliances with the Freon properly removed, and Norton's Highway Department takes them on its recycling Saturdays for a fee. Tell us about any appliance when you book.

How long can I keep the container?

Most rentals include a standard 7-day rental period, and longer rentals may be available depending on your project. If the job runs on, call and we can often extend it for an additional daily or weekly fee. If you finish early, call and we pick it up early. We found no Norton time limit for a roll-off on your own driveway.

Do you serve outside Norton?

Yes — sixteen more towns, from Attleboro, North Attleborough, Mansfield, Rehoboth and Seekonk to Taunton, Raynham, Easton, Berkley, Dighton and Middleborough, and north to Foxborough, Plainville, Wrentham, Norfolk and Sharon. Each has its own page, and each says plainly what that town requires for a container and who may haul. We are licensed and insured.
